How much are your points worth? A UK guide to every major scheme
What a point, Avios or Clubcard voucher is actually worth in pounds — with the fixed values each UK scheme publishes, and how to value the rest.

Last checked: 30 October 2026. figures come from each scheme's own pages and terms on that date.
Ask "what's a point worth?" and you'll usually get "it depends". That's true, but it isn't very useful. A better answer comes in two parts:
1. The guaranteed value. Some schemes publish a fixed rate. A Tesco Clubcard point becomes a penny's worth of voucher, and 500 Nectar points take £2.50 off at Sainsbury's. That rate is your floor: the least you should accept.
2. The variable value. Flights and hotel nights have no fixed rate. What you get depends on the cash price you'd otherwise pay, so you need to work it out each time. Our redemption calculator guide shows you how.

TopCashback / Quidco

Some schemes have no fixed £ rate on their official pages:
- Avios Reward Flights. Avios.com says plainly that Avios "don't have a fixed value in pounds".
- Virgin Atlantic reward seats. Prices "vary based on demand".
- Flying Blue, Qatar Privilege Club, Iberia Club, Marriott Bonvoy, Hilton Honors and IHG One Rewards. Flights and nights are priced individually.
- Lidl Plus. Points go on reward coupons whose points prices change each week.
- Amex Membership Rewards. The rate for statement credits and Pay with Points is shown when you redeem. It isn't published.
- Boots Advantage Card. Boots' own newsroom confirms 3 points per £1 spent, but we couldn't open boots.com to confirm what a point is worth when you spend it Not yet confirmed.
Floors, ceilings and everything in between
Think of a fixed value as a safety net. Spending 10,000 Avios on PizzaExpress vouchers gets you £50: guaranteed, but at 0.5p each. A Reward Flight might get you more or less than that per Avios. It depends on the cash fare and the fixed charge you still pay. For example, avios.com lists off-peak economy returns to Paris from 20,000 Avios + £5 and to New York from 55,000 Avios + £150.
Some swaps tell you something just by their ratio:
- Nectar to Avios is 400 Nectar points for 250 Avios. You give up 0.5p for every Nectar point, so the Avios need to be worth more than 0.8p each to beat spending the points at Sainsbury's.
- Avios to Nectar is 1:1 (400 for 400). That gives you about 0.5p per Avios.
- Tesco Clubcard to Virgin Points is 1:2. If you then used the Virgin Points for Points Plus Money at 0.55p, each Clubcard point would be worth about 1.1p. That's slightly more than the 1p voucher value, and a flight could give you more or less than that.
- Amex Membership Rewards to Virgin Points is 1:1. Points Plus Money therefore sets a floor of about 0.55p per Amex point.
- Amex Membership Rewards to Accor is 3 to 1. With Accor points worth €0.02 on hotels, each Amex point is worth roughly €0.0067 that way.
Points schemes with no fixed value
Hotel schemes give you a starting price rather than a value. Marriott Bonvoy free nights start at 12,000 points and IHG reward nights at 10,000 points. Neither tells you what a point is worth: that depends on the cash rate for the same room and night. Work it out like this:
Value per point (in pence) = (cash price − any cash you still pay on the reward) ÷ points used × 100
Don't forget what you give up. A cash booking may earn points or status and a reward booking may not, although Virgin Atlantic says reward flights still earn Tier Points.
Cashback: the simplest benchmark
Cashback sites such as TopCashback and Quidco pay pounds, not points, once the retailer confirms your purchase. That makes them a handy yardstick. If a points redemption works out at 0.5p a point and a cashback offer pays the same percentage, the cash is usually more flexible. Remember the conditions, though:
- TopCashback may disable an account if you don't log in at least once every six months. Its Plus tier deducts up to £5 a year from your earnings.
- Quidco forfeits your balance if you don't log in for more than six months. Premium retains £1 when you upgrade, then £1 for every active 30 days.

Quick rules of thumb
- Know the floor value for each scheme you collect, and don't accept less unless points are about to expire.
- For flights and hotel nights, work out the value each time. Don't rely on a rule-of-thumb figure.
- Check transfer ratios before you move points. Some are 1:1, while others (Hilton to Virgin is 10,000 to 1,500) cost you most of the value.
- Values change. Every figure on this page was checked on 30 October 2026, and we show the date on each programme profile.
