BA Holidays' new 6 Avios per £1: who gains, who loses (from 24 November)

From 12:00 GMT on 24 November 2026, BA Holidays packages earn 6 Avios per £1, split between travellers. Who gains, who loses and how to check yours.

By RewardsSorted editorial, Editorial desk. Updated 1 November 2026.

Last updated 1 November 2026. Every figure here comes from British Airways' own pages, checked on 1 November 2026.

In short

  • British Airways Holidays packages booked from 12:00 GMT on 24 November 2026 earn 6 Avios for every £1 of the total package price, whenever you travel.
  • The Avios are split evenly between everyone on the booking, not counting infants under two. Each traveller collects their share only if their Club membership number is on the booking.
  • Every tier earns the same 6 Avios per £1. It replaces both the flight Avios and the lead traveller's bonus of 1 Avios per £1.
  • Packages booked before 12:00 GMT on 24 November stay on the current system.
  • Hotels or car hire booked on their own through BA Holidays still earn 1 Avios per £1.

What counts as a package?

BA says flight + hotel and flight + car packages booked with British Airways Holidays qualify.

Counts towards the package price:

  • Ancillaries bought through BA Holidays, such as sightseeing excursions and transfers
  • The full eligible value, even if you part-pay or pay in full with Avios

Doesn't count:

  • Seat selection and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) contributions. These have their own Avios earning and stay separate.
  • Mandatory local taxes, fees or charges you pay directly to the hotel on arrival

How it works now vs from 24 November

  • Flight Avios

    Booked before 12:00 GMT, 24 Nov 2026:
Each traveller collects Avios on the flight element
    Booked from 12:00 GMT, 24 Nov 2026:
    Replaced by the single award
  • Package bonus

    Booked before 12:00 GMT, 24 Nov 2026:
Lead traveller collects 1 bonus Avios per £1
    Booked from 12:00 GMT, 24 Nov 2026:
    Replaced by the single award
  • Single award

    Booked from 12:00 GMT, 24 Nov 2026:

  • Tier difference

    Booked before 12:00 GMT, 24 Nov 2026:
Flight Avios in packages include tier bonuses (see below)
    Booked from 12:00 GMT, 24 Nov 2026:

Why tier matters today. BA says flights booked as part of a BA Holidays package currently earn Avios based on a percentage of the miles flown and the cabin. Bronze, Silver and Gold members get tier bonuses of 15%, 30% or 50% extra Avios on top of that flight award. Under the new system, all tiers earn the same 6 Avios per £1.

BA's worked examples

A 7-night Crete package for 2 adults in economy, £3,600 in total (£1,800 each). Both travellers are Club members.

  • Current system

    Lead traveller:
    1,690 flight Avios + 3,600 bonus = 5,290
    Second traveller:
    1,690
    Total:
    6,980
  • From 24 November

    Lead traveller:
    10,800
    Second traveller:
    10,800
    Total:
    21,600

BA notes that 10,800 Avios is enough for each traveller to book a one-way off-peak Reward Flight to Paris in Euro Traveller, from 10,000 Avios + £2.50.

A £2,000 holiday for two: the booking earns 12,000 Avios. If both travellers are Club members, each receives 6,000.

Who gains and who loses

Likely to gain

  • Most package customers. BA's own Crete example roughly triples the total Avios for the booking.
  • Non-lead travellers. Before, only the lead traveller got the bonus. Now everyone with a Club number gets an equal share.
  • Families who pool. Each child aged two or over who is a Club member collects a share. With a household account, those shares can be pooled.

Could lose out

  • Anyone without a Club number on the booking. Their share isn't collected. BA says travellers who aren't Club members won't collect Avios.
  • Bronze, Silver and Gold members, compared with what they'd get today. The tier bonus on flight Avios no longer applies, because every tier earns the same rate. Whether you end up with more or fewer Avios depends on the package. Compare both systems for your quote (see the calculator below).

What stays the same

  • Separate hotel or car hire. BA says you'll continue to collect 1 Avios per £1 on eligible hotel and/or car bookings made through British Airways Holidays.
  • Avis or Budget car hire in a package. It still earns its own Avios, on top of the BA Holidays Avios.
  • Bonus Avios promotions. If you book a package under a promotion, you get the bonus under that offer's own terms.
  • Tier points on packages. Tier points are separate from Avios. Packages still earn 1 tier point per £1, split between travellers excluding infants, plus extra tier points per flight by cabin.

Families and household accounts

  • Children: aged two or over on the outbound date, they can collect Avios if they're Club members and their number is added before travel.
  • Infants: under two, they don't collect Avios and aren't counted when the Avios are shared out.
  • Household account: BA's household account lets up to seven people in total (you and up to six others, including children) pool Avios into a shared balance. It's free.

How to make sure you get your Avios

1. Check the time. Packages booked from 12:00 GMT on 24 November 2026 earn under the new system, whatever your travel dates.

2. Add a Club number for every traveller aged two or over before you travel. Joining is free.

3. If you change your booking, BA bases your Avios on the final eligible package value at the time of travel.

4. Look for your Avios within 14 days of getting home.

Compare the two BA Holidays systems

Booked before 12:00 GMT on 24 November 2026

21,600 Avios on the new system

10,800 each. 21,600 collected. This share is an estimate, rounded down to a whole Avios.

Current system: 6,980 in total (5,290 for the lead traveller, 1,690 for another member). Difference against the new award: 14,620 Avios.

FAQ

Is there a limit on how many Avios I can collect per booking? BA says there's no limit per booking.

Does it apply outside the UK? BA says it applies to eligible packages worldwide, in all markets where BA Holidays packages are sold. Non-GBP prices are converted to GBP at the rate on your booking date.

I booked my package before 24 November. What do I get? The current system. Eligible travellers collect flight Avios, and the lead traveller collects 1 bonus Avios per £1.

Do I still earn Avios if I pay with Avios? Yes. BA says you collect on the total eligible value, whether you part-pay or pay in full with Avios.
