How to get the most from it

  • Best-value use. The UK partner list is public, with no log-in. Confirmed ratios: British Airways Club, Flying Blue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club at 1:1; Hilton Honors at 1:2; Marriott Bonvoy at 2:3; ALL Accor at 3:1. Transfer only when the partner redemption is worth more to you than keeping the points.
  • Common mistakes. The ratios above are the standard rates on Amex’s UK partner page. Ratios for the other named partners are not in this profile. Card earn rates beyond the programme’s own wording are not here.
  • Expiry traps. The UK terms PDF has no effective date on the document. No time limit is stated, but points are lost if the card account closes and they are not redeemed within 30 days. A late payment forfeits the points from that statement period.

You earn Membership Rewards points on eligible spend, with some purchases and fees left out.

  • Card spend

    "One Membership Rewards point for every full pound of eligible spend" on selected cards (e.g. The Platinum Card, Preferred Rewards Gold). Purchases rounded down to the nearest pound. Supplementary cards earn into the main account.

  • Exclusions

    No points on interest, fees, balance transfers, cash advances or cash-like transactions (e.g. prepaid card loads, foreign currency).

Points can be transferred to travel partners at the ratios on Amex’s UK partner page, or used with Amex in other published ways.

  • Transfer to airline and hotel partners

    The UK partner list is public on Amex’s Membership Rewards travel partners page. British Airways Club, Flying Blue and Virgin Atlantic Flying Club are 1:1. Hilton Honors is 1:2. Marriott Bonvoy is 2:3. ALL Accor is 3:1. Other named partners on that page do not have a ratio in this profile.

  • Pay with Points

    SafeKey at online stores, Amazon.co.uk, PayPal "Pay with Rewards", JustGiving (9,000+ UK charities).

  • Statement credit

    Reduce monthly card balance or cover eligible purchases.
