How to get the most from it
- Best-value use. Airline transfers are 3:1 for most programmes, including The British Airways Club, Iberia (still listed by Marriott as Iberia Plus), Qatar Privilege Club and Flying Blue. Most of those transfers add 5,000 miles per 60,000 points. United’s bonus is 10,000. American, Avianca and Delta have no bonus. Air New Zealand is 200:1, with 75 miles per 60,000 points.
- Common mistakes. Gifting, transferring or receiving points from another member does not count as qualifying activity. The daily transfer window is 3,000 to 240,000 points.
- Expiry traps. Points are forfeited after 24 months without qualifying activity. Earning, redeeming, buying points, a qualifying stay, or converting with a designated partner counts. Lifetime Elite accounts are not currently subject to expiry.
