How to claim missing Avios and tier points from BA

Avios or tier points not showing after a flight? When to claim, the deadlines, what you need and how long BA takes, from BA's own help pages.

By RewardsSorted editorial, Editorial desk. Updated 1 November 2026.

The short answer: log in to your British Airways Club account and use BA's online claim form. For a BA flight, wait at least three days first. For a partner airline flight, wait seven days, and for shopping, hotels and other non-airline partners, wait four to eight weeks. You have six months from the flight or transaction to claim. For a flight claim you'll need your ticket number.

How long to wait before you claim

BA asks you to check your online statement first, as most Avios and tier points arrive on their own. Only claim once the waiting period below has passed.

  • Avios and tier points on a British Airways flight

    Wait at least:
    3 days
    Claim within:
    6 months of the flight
  • Avios and tier points on a partner airline flight

    Wait at least:
    7 days
    Claim within:
    6 months of the flight
  • Avios from a non-airline partner (shopping, hotels, car hire and so on)

    Wait at least:
    4 to 8 weeks
    Claim within:
    6 months of the transaction

Flights from before you joined

  • British Airways flights: you can claim for flights taken up to three months before you joined The British Airways Club.
  • Partner airline flights: you can't claim for flights taken before you joined.
  • Non-airline partners: you can't claim for transactions dated before you joined.

How to make a claim

1. Log in to your British Airways Club account on ba.com. You need to be logged in to claim.

2. Open BA's "Claim missing Avios & tier points" page and choose "Flights and non-airline". British Airways Holidays bookings have their own claim option on the same page.

3. Pick the right reason from the "What is your reason for contacting us?" drop-down:

  • "Claim for Avios or tier points on a British Airways flight"
  • "Claim for Avios or tier points on a partner airline"
  • "Claim for Avios with non-flight partners"
  • "Claim for Avios with in-flight purchases"

4. Add your ticket number for a flight claim. It's a long number that starts with three digits, such as 125-1234789534. You'll find it on your boarding pass and ticket receipt, and in the "Payment Information" section of your e-ticket confirmation email. If you booked elsewhere and can't find it, ask whoever sold you the ticket.

5. Attach proof such as boarding passes and tickets if you have them.

Codeshares: claim using the flight number of the airline that sold you the ticket, not the airline that operated the flight.

How long a claim takes

  • British Airways flight

    BA says allow up to:
    7 working days
  • Partner airline flight

    BA says allow up to:
    4 weeks
  • Non-airline partner

    BA says allow up to:
    8 weeks

You can follow progress with the "Track a claim" option on the same BA page.

If your claim is rejected or stuck

BA's page says that if an online claim is unsuccessful or rejected, or you think a flight was credited wrongly, you can send in the details online with proof, such as copies of your boarding passes and tickets. Use the same "What is your reason for contacting us?" drop-down and pick the option that matches your flight or purchase.

For wider account problems, BA's Club FAQs point members to its WhatsApp support.

Keep your boarding passes and ticket receipts until the Avios and tier points show on your statement. BA recommends this, and they're the proof it asks for.

Why Avios and tier points go missing

  • Your membership number wasn't on the booking. Add it when you book, and again at check-in. For ba.com bookings you can add it later in Manage My Booking.
  • Your details don't match. The name and date of birth on your ticket and passport must match those on your Club account.
  • It was a reward booking. Reward Flights don't earn Avios or tier points, even if you paid to upgrade the cabin.
  • It was a paid booking upgraded with Avios or a Gold upgrade voucher. You earn Avios and tier points on the fare you paid, not on the cabin you upgraded to. If you paid cash to upgrade a BA flight, you earn based on the upgrade.
  • Your flight was disrupted. On a BA ticket, you should still get Avios and tier points based on your original ticket, even if you were moved to another airline. On partner tickets, that's up to the partner. If you were moved onto BA or a partner, you can claim for the flight you actually took.
  • Someone else was named on the booking. Only the person named on the ticket earns. For hotels, car hire and other non-airline partners, Avios are given once per stay or transaction, to the person named on the invoice.

Household accounts

Each adult in a household account has to make their own claims. For members under 16 who can't manage their account online, the head of the household account can claim for them.

Tier points near the end of the membership year

The BA Club membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March. BA says membership cards stay valid until 30 April "to allow time for all tier points to be awarded for the completed membership year". If you're close to a tier threshold in March, check your statement after each flight, and claim as soon as the waiting period has passed. For upcoming changes to tier thresholds, see BA tier points from April 2027. Estimate a trip with the BA tier points calculator. Avios explained covers how Avios and tier points differ.
