How to get the most from it

  • Best-value use. 500 points are £2.50 at Sainsbury’s, Argos and Habitat. 400 Nectar points convert to 250 Avios, so those 400 points (£2 at the Sainsbury’s rate) need the Avios to be worth more than 0.8p each to beat spending them in store. Marriott Bonvoy converts both ways at 500 to 250, minimum 500, in steps of 100. Accounts can be linked or unlinked only once.
  • Common mistakes. Do not assume you can spend Nectar at Esso. The same official page says collectors cannot redeem at Esso and also describes a 5p-a-litre Synergy discount. That conflict is not resolved here. New customers cannot join automatic Avios-to-Nectar conversion. Sign-ups from before 16 February 2021 continue. The same section still says “British Airways Executive Club”.
  • Expiry traps. There is no fixed points expiry. Nectar may close an account with no points earned or redeemed for at least 12 months. A digital account with no scan for 12 months goes inactive until you scan the card. Earning at Esso is 1 point per litre of Synergy fuel, or 2 points per £1 on car wash, lubricants or shop products, not at an Esso site with a Tesco Express, and not on LPG.

Sainsbury’s, Argos, Esso and other partners each publish their own earn rate.

  • Sainsbury's

    1 point per £1 on qualifying spend at Sainsbury's supermarkets and sainsburys.co.uk; 1 point per litre at Sainsbury's petrol stations; points on registered Sainsbury's Bank products. Points are based on the final amount paid after discounts; link your card before paying.

  • Argos and Habitat

    1 point per £1 on qualifying spend (exclusions apply).

  • Esso

    1 point per litre of Esso Synergy fuel, or 2 points per £1 on car wash, lubricants or shop products, at participating sites. Not at an Esso site with a Tesco Express. No points on LPG.

  • Other partners

    Tu Clothing, Uber, Nectar Hotels, Ambassador Cruise Line, Dulux Decorator Centre, Woodland Trust (20 points per £1 on membership fees), Marriott Bonvoy (link), and more.
