How to use Avios from Dubai

Avios for UAE residents: Qatar Airways Privilege Club, moving Avios to and from British Airways, the Emirates NBD route (1 = 14 Avios) and keeping them alive.

Summary

  • From the UAE, the main home for Avios is Qatar Airways Privilege Club.
  • You can move Avios instantly and at no cost between Privilege Club and British Airways once your accounts are linked.
  • Collect in the UAE: Qatar Airways and oneworld flights, or convert Emirates NBD Plus Points (1 = 14 Avios).
  • Avios don't expire if you collect, spend, buy or gift at least one every 36 months.

Best ways to maximise

Current official offers

  • Qatar Privilege Club: fewer Qpoints needed for status until 18 December 2026. This helps status, not your Avios balance.

Evergreen tips

  • Search award seats before you move points. Conversions from banks can't be reversed.
  • Use Cash + Avios if you're short. You still collect Avios on the cash part, according to Qatar Airways.
  • Pool with family. Family & Friends lets up to nine people pool Avios.
  • Revalidate lapsed Avios for USD 0.015 each if you've let some expire.

Step by step

1. Join Qatar Airways Privilege Club (free).

2. Add your number to every Qatar Airways or oneworld booking.

3. Convert UAE points if you have them. Emirates NBD Plus Points convert at 1 = 14 Avios. That's AED 1 ÷ 14 = AED 0.071 per Avios given up.

4. Link to British Airways if you want to book with BA. Move Avios across instantly at no cost.

5. Book Qatar Airways or British Airways award flights on qatarairways.com, or upgrades and Cash + Avios.

Where else Avios can go

  • Avios → Marriott Bonvoy

    Ratio:
    2 Avios = 1 point

  • Avios ↔ ALL Accor

    Ratio:
    Both ways, once linked

FAQ
