Method

How we value points

A point does not have one price. We show a figure in pence per point only for a named way of spending, with the method, the source and the date it was last checked. Where we have not checked it, the cell stays empty. An empty cell is not zero.

The single-redemption sum

For one booking, pence per point = (comparable cash price โˆ’ cash charges on the reward booking) รท points redeemed, after converting the pound difference into pence. The cash price should be a like-for-like ticket or room, not a different cabin, date or cancellation rule. The calculator does this arithmetic and nothing else.

Optional adjustments

  • Points you would have earned by paying cash are added to the points redeemed. That lowers the pence-per-point figure, because redeeming also gives those points up.
  • A transfer ratio is the number of programme points received for one point of another currency. Source points = programme points redeemed รท ratio. If foregone points are also entered, the adjusted source figure divides redeemed plus foregone by the same ratio.

What a published range will mean

A typical range, when we publish one, is built from checked redemptions, not from an undated average. The calculator shows the method and the last-checked date beside a result. We do not show a range we have not checked.

What we will not do

We will not invent an earn rate to fill a table, treat one sweet-spot redemption as typical, or present a calculator result as a valuation published by RewardsSorted or by a scheme.
